The Teacher Education Writing Examination
Taking and passing the Teacher Education Writing Exam is required for admission to the Teacher Education Program at Utah State University. The exam is given during the first five weeks of Fall and Spring Semesters (Summer Semesters may vary.) It is administered in the YETC (see address and phone information for the YETC at the top of this page) and at selected extension sites throughout Utah. Students may attempt writing exam only ONCE per semester.
You can take the writing examination during YETC business hours. You do not need to make an appointment. You have one hour to take the examination, so be sure to arrive at the YETC at least an hour and a half before closing. You will need to present a picture identification, such as your activity card or driver's license.
The next opportunity to take the writing examination will occur the first five weeks of Spring Semester 2012.
For more information, please see the writing examination guidelines.

Some Great, Free Resources for Our Students!
The YETC spent time to gather free resources from the internet - things you can freely download on your own if you wanted to take time to hunt them all down. However, we've done most of the work for you!
Free Software for Windows PCs! There are many wonderful, free or open source software applicationsthat can do the same as commercial software packages. Applications such as OpenOffice (equivalent to Microsoft Office - and there's even a kids' version), Celestia (a solar system exploration), Blender (an advanced 3D graphics modeling program), and many more! Over 100 free applications (and we're adding more all the time!)
Free Software for Macintosh OSX computers! You'll receive free and open source applications such as OpenOffice (equivalent to Microsoft Office), XMind (Concept Mapping and Org Chart program), VirtualBox (let's you run Windows on your Mac), Sweet Home 3D (Home interior design application), and many, many more! Over 350 applications that can meet almost any software need you may have!
Classic Library of eBooks! - all in PDF format! Authors such as Mark Twain, the Bronte sisters, Lewis Carroll, L. Frank Baum, Beatrix Potter, Charles Darwin, John Dewey, and hundreds more. Over 2000 books and still adding more!
Music Resources! Free music composition software for Windows and Mac! Free sheet music. Over 600 free audio mp3 files of classical music played by both orchestras and bands.
Children's stories! - Hundreds of children's stories as audio MP3, as PDF books, and as Videos.
Educational Podcasts! - Tens of thousands! Educational audio and video across all the curriculum - science, languages, social studies, music, art, technology, and more. Things like National Geographic podcasts, TEDTalks - inspirational videos from important people around the world, Science Magazine, Photoshop User TV, Merriam Webster's Dictionary Word of the Day… Too many to list here.
AudioBook Library - 340 audiobooks of classic works and counting. Each book comes with an MP3 audio file for each chapter in the book. Books such as Anne of Green Gables, The Art of War, Black Beauty, Candide, A Christmas Carol, David Copperfield, and many, many more!
NASA Educational Videos, Lesson Plans, Posters, and More! - Thousands of K-12 lesson plans with related worksheets, information, and website links to simulations, etc. Posters, bookmarks, lithographs, and more! Over a thousand videos produced for the classroom from NASA (The National Aeronautics and Space Administration). Most of these videos focus on STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
Free Fonts and Desktop Wallpapers - a wonderful collection of fonts and desktop screens you can use on your computers.
Educational Videos - a collection of several thousand educational videos, licensed for use by Utah public school educators, homeschool parents, or pre-service teachers only. (Utah educators only!)
How can you access these? Come to the YETC. You'll need your USU activity card. You may then copy the files you want from our hard drives to your laptop, to your own flash drive, to your own portable hard drive, or online storage. Or you can purchase blank DVDs at the front desk (Aggie Express only) for 35¢ each, and save the files to DVDs. When finished, just return the drive to the front desk and pick up your activity card.
Print double-sided and save money!
All the YETC's printers have been upgraded to easily print double-sided. In the print dialog box, just choose 2-sided printing.
As an additional incentive to print double-sided - we'll only charge 10¢ for double-sided prints. You save 4¢ on each double-sided print! Single-sided prints are 7¢ each.
Color prints are 25¢ per page for single sided printing - but only 40¢ for pages printed double-sided color.
We're sure this is a win-win situation in a year of economic difficulty and budget cuts. We'll save on paper costs, and you'll save on printing costs.
Show me how to print double-sided on the YETC Windows PCs or the YETC Macintoshes!
If you're unsure what to do, please feel free to ask one of the YETC employees to help you.
