Unit SummaryBesides this lesson, I wrote six other lessons on community helpers. They included lessons in math, science, language arts, physical education, health, and a culminating lesson. My math lesson discussed weight. The children learned that grocers weigh fruits and vegetables every day. Through this the children learned how to use scales. During the science lesson, the children used magnifying glasses and studied the world around them. They became little scientists. For language arts the children used a bingo sheet and became more familiar with community helpers. In the physcial education lesson, a fire fighters relay race was performed. A doctors office was set up for the health lesson where the children learned what it was like in a doctors office. And finally for the culmination activity, the children traced their bodies and drew themselves with a uniform on. With all these activities the children truly understood about community helpers.
