Project Information:

Effective social resistance is an essential part of our striving for a more democratic society. Children need role models who have championed the cause of groups of people who have had their constitutional rights denied or their voices silenced. Teacher education students wrote biographies about people who were "Champions of Resistance" - individuals who refused to settle for an inequitable social status quo. These brief summaries of their biographies are meant to be a resource for teachers who want to offer their students a wider variety of social change agent role models than is usually included in history textbooks.
