Title of Lesson:** Resolving problems

**Objective: **After participating in or
listening to a readers
theater from __A Pocket Full of
Seeds__, the students will be able to identify Nicole's problem
(name calling) and create a solution to the problem.

**Materials Needed:** 5 Scripts to __A Pocket
Full of Seeds__ (Appendix
D)

**Procedures:
**1. Numbered Heads Strategy. Explain to the students that this
exercise requires them to work in cooperative groups.

- Instruct the students to number off from 1-5.
- After they have numbered off, direct the students who were #1's to an area of the classroom where they can participate in a discussion. Repeat this step with groups 2,3,4, and 5.
- After the students are in their groups, give
each group the following question to discuss. (Explain to the
students that one person from each group will be responsible to
explain the answer they have discussed to the rest of the class).
**Question**: - If you were a classmate in Nicole's classroom, what could you do to stop the name calling without violence?

2. After the students have finished discussing the problems in groups, the teacher will give each student in each group a number on a paper from 1-5. The teacher will then roll a dice. The students whose number corresponds with the dice is responsible to share their group's answer.

3. The teacher will monitor the students as they discuss their answers with the rest of the class.

**Evaluation:
**The teacher will evaluate by listening to the groups responses
and checking for validity of the answer.
