TASK

You will be required to research a mathematician using the resources provided and any others you find beneficial.  With the information you obtain, you will have the opportunity to write a short report about the mathematician including information about their life and contributions they have made to the world of mathematics.  Along with a report, you will create a “baseball” style card about your mathematician. When you are researching, concentrate on these things because the math committee will be looking for this information when they make their selections for the Hall of Fame:

  • Day and year of birth and death
  • Educational background
  • Major influences and role on math they had
    • What are the individual's contributions to the field of mathematics?
    • How do the contributions create a better understanding of our world?
  • Unique event or interesting fact about your mathematician

You may include any other interesting information but need to make sure these things mentioned above are covered.

Then, the committee will meet and review each mathematician.  You must use your prepared findings and present evidence to the other members of the committee.  The evidence must prove why your mathematician is qualified for the “Math Hall of Fame”.
