International
Music Convention
Welcome to the International Music Convention! You will have the opportunity to experience some of the most fascinating music and culture from around the world. Each booth will have colorful posters and packets of cultural information to enjoy. You will also have the priveledge to hear some of the great music from these cultures played by master musicians. We hope you enjoy your experience. . . Oh no, I have just recieved word that some of our delegates have been stranded at the airport due to snow! I need all of your help! Please keep reading to see how you can help save the convention.
Your task is to design a booth to represent the culture and music of the missing delegates. The delegate who have been stranded are the Ewe delegate, the Appalachian Folk Music/Bluegrass delegate, the Hindustani Classical Music delegate, and the Mariachi Music delegate. You will be divided into 4 groups and each group will be responsible to conduct research and design a booth for their chosen culture which includes the following elements:
1. A poster
to decorate your booth
2. An informational
packet to hand out to convention goers
3. Examples of
music to have playing at your booth
Each group must use the Resources provided to create the elements for their booth. These elements will be evaluated by the following criteria (This is how you get a good grade!):
1. Your poster should include the name of the
musical style you are responsible to represent.
2. Your poster should include the name of the culture of its
origin.
3. Your poster should be colorful and include a graphic which
illustrates the music and cultural heritage .
4. Neatness counts! Everything should be organized and clear so
convention goers will know who you are representing.
Tips: When you are researching, notice the colors and graphics used on the websites (these can give you some ideas). Don't copy exactly, though!
1. The information packet must be two pages long
plus a bibliography in the format we will cover in class (three pages
total).
2. Your packet must have the following sections:
3. Your packet will be evaluated on accurate
content and writing style.
4. Proper grammar and spelling is a must! (remember this is to
represent and promote your culture)
1. You must have the name and performance
information of three pieces from the genre.
2. These pieces should be authentic and representative (we will
discuss this in class)
3. You must have a recording of one piece to play in your
booth.

Thanks to all of your hard work and research the convention was saved! You also learned some valuable information about different cultures and the music that they enjoy. Hopefully next year the snow will allow our delegates to arrive safely. Great work!
