Budgeting
Introduction:
Have you ever wondered where your money goes? How in the world do you manage your finances? Have you ever considered budgeting? What is budgeting? This activity will teach you how to budget, as well as prepare you for making major purchases. Have fun!

Task:
For this activity you will be visiting 3 sites. You will be completing worksheets from two of the sites and answering the questions listed below. You will also be preparing a poster of your car comparisons, which you will present to the class. You can work with a partner but you both must complete the worksheets, but you only need to make one poster.
Questions:
1. What are the steps in budgeting?
2. What is most important to you in budgeting?
3. What things should you compare when buying a car?
4. How does car pricing work?
5. What are the steps of financing?
6. What are 5 things you should check when buying a car?
7. What is "homework" when buying a car?
8. Give 3 examples of needs and 3 examples of wants.
9. What is the difference between a standard warrantee and an extended warrantee?
10. What 3 things as an owner do you have to consider?
First things first,
you will need for this activity a pencil, some paper, and if you want
a partner. Please read all instructions, so you will not miss any
parts of this web quest.
1. Look at the websites listed in the resource section. You will want to go to the required sites in the order they are listed. Remember you must answer the questions under the TASK section in your notebook, the answers are found in these websites.
2. For the first site read through the whole site answer the following questions on the worksheet : Worksheets For Website.doc, you must open this worksheet and print it off to do the activities and answer the questions.

3. Go to the second website (Practical Money Skills).

Go
to the third website listed (Car Clicks). Most of the questions come
from this website. Search through the whole site to find the answer.
This site is also a good guide for the research you will be doing
when comparing cars.
5. You can use the remainder websites
to find information for your research. You are not limited to these
websites though. For this next step you can work with a partner. You
can combine your research together. You will be presenting your
findings to the class, so you will only need to make one presentation
between the two of you, but you must work together! ![]()
6. You will be comparing the following for 3 different types of cars (ONE MUST BE NEW AND ONE MUST BE USED) :

Learning Advice:
Use the websites to answer the questions. A useful hint, most of the questions come from the checklist website. You must explore the site to find the answers! When making a comparison chart the following might be a helpful start on how to organize your information: Comparison Worksheet. Your poster should be colorful and professional summarizing your findings. Make it interesting. You will be presenting this to the class. Have fun!!!

Conclusion:
Budgeting allows you to make goals and stay financial prepared for the unexpected bills that may arise. Having a budget can help you have more money then no money. You can see where you spend the most money. It helps you to balance your income and expenses. Hopefully you learned that major purchases should be looked into with great detail. Major purchases, like cars, must be researched before any decision is made.
