And the answer is...


Except for the external tank, all parts of the Space Shuttle are reusable. The Shuttle can be used to recover malfunctioning satellites and return them to Earth for repair. A runway landing is less costly than a parachute descent and sea recovery, such as the ones with the Apollo spacecraft.
