The Hubble Space Telescope will be operated in orbit from the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., in support of astronomers working at the Goddard-managed Space Telescope Science Institute in nearby Baltimore, Md. Operation commands to the telescope and data returning from the telescope will be relayed via the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS) System and its companion ground station at White Sands, N.M. From White Sands, imagery and other science data from the telescope's instruments are transmitted via a domestic satellite to Goddard and then forwarded to the Space Telescope Science Institute for analysis.
