Title of Lesson: World War II Time Line

Objective:

• Students will be able to locate information on WWII in reference books.
• Students as a group will be able to place key events of WWII in appropriate sequence on a time line.
• Students will be able to discuss key events that occurred during WWII as a class.

Materials Needed:

• 5 X 7 Index Cards, Clothespins, 15' rope,
  Reference books.

Procedures:
1. Time Line. Explain to the students that they are going to participate in making a time line using reference materials located throughout the room. (Books, encyclopedias, etc.)

• Explain to the students that they will be working in 4 groups. Divide the class by having them number off in fours. Each group will be responsible for a certain time period listed:

  - 1939 & 1941
  - 1942
  - 1943
  - 1944 & 1945

  • Explain to the students that they are responsible to write down the key events that took place during each time period on 5 x 7 cards (1 event per card).
  • Allow the students enough time to get complete information.

4. When the students are finished with their cards, they will then be responsible to hang them on the rope with a clothespin in their sequential order.

5. When the time line is complete, each group will discuss the time period they were responsible for.

6. Guided Instruction. The teacher will monitor the students as they discuss the events that took place during their time period.

Evaluation:

The students will be observed on the information they contributed to their time period as well as the sequential order in which they put the events on the time line. The students will also be monitored as they discuss the information they located during their time period.
